First Impression

The Inateck 60W PD USB-C is a solid, standard issue 60W USB-C PD wall charger. That’s more than I could say for similar chargers included with laptops. They tend to have unusual power profiles. Inateck’s charger meets with USB-IF standards. That means it can support USB-C devices from accessories on up to a laptop. It is slim, opting for a taller form factor. The glossy sides look pretty, but they also attract smudges. And they aren’t helpful when certain people need to take pictures for a review.

The iPhone 8 fast charges when using a USB-C to Lightning cable. We see the usual power negotiations. Connection starts at 5V, then moves up to 9V. Learn more about fast charging iPhones.

The Moto G6 does regular charging via USB-C. This will be the same for Samsung and Quick Charge enabled Android phones. While the 9-10W provided is a decent charge, it isn’t fast charging. The Google Pixel and Android phones that support USB Power Delivery will fast charge on the USB-C port. Learn more about fast charging various Android phones.

The Nintendo Switch charges at its max rate, charging while you play. Its charge rate while sleeping is also normal. This charger can also power the Switch’s dock. Learn more about charging the Switch.

The PD protocol negotiation with the Switch is typical. It connects at 5V and moved up to 15V after negotiations. Current steps up once the 15V connection is made.

As a 60W charger is can support 12-inch and 13-inch laptops. As well as 15-inch models running office, Internet, and entertainment apps. If playing video games or using CPU intense apps it may only extend battery life. But either way you get a lot more uptime. Learn more about charging USB-C laptops.

USB-IF Certification

Technically this charger isn’t USB-IF certified… but it is. The charger received its certification out of the factory, which is a member of the USB-IF. Inateck purchases and re-brands the charger from that factory for retail sale. The act of re-branding is common in the industry. Compare Inateck’s 60W USB-C charger to this Monoprice 45W USB-C charger. They use the same exterior casing, which comes from the same source.

Inateck is not a dues paying member of the USB-IF. So they aren’t allowed to use the USB-IF certified label in their marketing. But the charger doesn’t get modified, so it has the same qualities that got it certified out of the factory.

Summary

The Inateck 60W PD USB-C is a great, well rounded USB-C wall charger. Designed for travel with a slimmer profile, folding prongs, and long 6.6 USB-C cable included. Compare that to Apple’s 61W USB-C power adapter. Which is larger, heavier, does not include a USB-C cable. And until 2018 didn’t support all the power profiles it should.

As a 60W USB-C PD charger it can fast charger a large number of devices. Newer iPhones and Android phones that support USB Power Delivery. The iPad Pro (all versions). The Nintendo Switch, both handheld and docked. And up to 13-inch laptops with no problem and even 15-inch laptops under the right conditions. It won’t fast charge Android phones that use Quick Charge or similar tech. But those with USB-C will charge at a decent rate.

I like this charger for commuting or traveling with a USB-C laptop. Its included cable is longer than usually needed, and has its own velcro wrap to keep it neat. I’ve also used it to setup a docked Switch at friends’ homes. And with a USB-C to Lightning cable it’ll charge my phone when not charging the larger devices.

If you don’t own a USB-C laptop this charger may be overkill. It’s priced well for 60W. But you could get a 45W charger for less that would work as well with everything up to a 12-inch laptop. USB-C is here to stay and you will get more such devices over time. Buying a 60W charger over a 45W could future-proof your power needs.

Bottom Line

The Inateck 60W PD USB-C is one of my regular travel charger for my laptop and Switch dock. It is also great for any smaller USB-C PD device. An all-in-one charger for anyone with a growing collection of USB-C devices.
