  • iPhone 5

Fast Charging Older iPhones

Apple developed their own fast charging standard to power the iPad, known as Apple 2.4A. They included it in the next iPhone model (iPhone 4). And it has been supported by every new iPhone since. It can charge your iPhone up to 10.5W.

The USB charger included with your iPhone is not a fast charger. It offers only 5W and is obsolete by today’s standards. A charger that supports Apple 2.4A will charge your iPhone significantly faster.

To go from 0-100% takes the 5W charger over 2.5 hours. That’s 45 minutes longer than an Apple 2.4A supporting charger. With most chargers you can use the Lightning cable that came with your iPhone.
