All power banks list their capacity (mAh) based on the nominal voltage of the battery cells. It does not accurately represent how many recharges you’ll get with the power bank. Actual capacity shows how much power you’ll actually get from a power bank.
You can divide the actual capacity below by your device’s battery capacity. That will give you a realistic estimate on the number of charges it will provide.
- Listed Capacity: 10,000mAh
- Actual Capacity:
- Phone Charging: 7,000mAh
- Switch Charging: 6,200mAh
Actual capacities are estimates are based on capacity testing and calculation.
The AUKEY PB-Y13 10000 USB-C PD looks like any other slim 10,000mAh power bank. The type designed for use with a smartphone, fitting behind the phone in your hand. It is a bit larger than a 4.7-inch iPhone 8 and a bit smaller than a 5.7-inch Moto G6. And thicker than either. Inside that small, familiar form factor is a USB-C PD power bank. Capable of fast charging most brands of smartphones.
Power Meter Readings
If you connect to the USB-A port it’ll charge ~20% slower.
The Moto G6 fast charges using the Quick Charge port (orange USB-A). This will be the same for Samsung and Quick Charge enabled Android phones. If connected to the USB-C port it’ll charge ~50% slower. The Google Pixel and Android phones that support USB Power Delivery will fast charge on the USB-C port. Learn more about fast charging various Android phones.
The Nintendo Switch charges at the expected rate with a 12V charger. Chargers which offer 12V but not 15V will under perform with the Switch. It under draws power, maxing out at 12W instead of 18W with a 9V or 15V charger. The issue is with the Switch, not the charger. Please note 12W is still more than enough to charge the Switch in handheld mode while you play. Learn more about charging the Switch.
The PD protocol negotiation with the Switch is typical. It connects at 5V and moved up to 12V after negotiations. Current steps up once the 12V connection is made.

Pass Through Charging
Pass through charging allows a power bank to both recharge and charge a connected device. Some of the energy flows from the wall output, through the power bank, to the device. The remaining energy recharges the power bank itself.
The AUKEY PB-Y13 supports pass through charging a couple of ways:
- Input: USB-C, Output: USB-A
- Input: micro-USB, Output: USB-C or USB-A
With micro-USB as the input USB-C output drops to 5V. So you won’t be fast charging anything. To get back to 9V or 12V you’ll need to both disconnect the micro-USB cable and USB-C cable.
To show the drop in charge speed I charged a Nintendo Switch up 10%:
- Normal charging while sleeping: 14 minutes
- Pass through charging while sleeping: 24 minutes
- Pass through charging while playing: 70 minutes
Pass through charging is useful for overnight stays with limited wall chargers. It is not recommended to do so on a regular basis. It puts more heat and stress on the power bank, which can affect its lifespan. Doing it when traveling is fine. But don’t set this up next to your bed at home every night.
The AUKEY PB-Y13 10000 USB-C PD is one of the thinnest USB-C PD power banks on the market. Its form factor is nice for holding it and a phone together. While it isn’t a high output power bank you shouldn’t dismiss its performance to size ration. It is about the same size and only a bit heavier than your phone. It’ll slip into any commute or travel bag. Or a jacket pocket.
Its 18W USB-C PD will fast charge Power Delivery supporting phones and small tablets. It will also charge the Nintendo Switch while you play in handheld mode. Though not as fast as possible (12W vs 18W). The 2018 iPad Pro will charge as well as with its own charger, but it can charge faster.
Its Quick Charge 3.0 port will fast charge most Android phones. Including Samsung, Motorola, and other QC supporting models. The included USB-C to USB-A cable works great for QC phones with USB-C.
It won’t fast charge both a USB PD and a QC device at the same time. If you connect to both the USB-C and a USB-A port the USB-C output drops to 5V. And both ports limit themselves to 2A. My Moto G6 went from over 16W to 10W. And my Nintendo Switch went from 12W to 7.5W. Those are decent charge rates and I would be fine charging two devices at once while asleep. But if you need to charge as fast as possible keep it to one device at a time.
AUKEY has U.S. based support (web and email) and a 24 month warranty. You must have purchased the product either from them or through Amazon for support.
The AUKEY PB-Y13 10000 USB-C PD will fast charge most model USB-C phones and other similar sized devices. Its support of USB Power Delivery and Quick Charge make it great for a mixed brand household on the go. And you can’t complain about the price.Buy on Amazon
